A NEW MINISTER ORDER PROHIBITS FELLING IN THE FORESTS OF THE REPUBLIC OF MOLDOVA!

Order No. 81 of March 13, 2020 provides for the cessation of planned cuttings before the end of this year in all natural forests.

It is forbidden to cut trees in spite of the goals: felling for main products, secondary, other types of felling.

The order was sent for review and unconditional execution to MoldSilva Agency and all subordinate enterprises.

At the same time, according to the order, the enterprises subordinate to MoldSilva will continue to accept forest materials from logging that has already been completed. In this regard, the acceptance of forest materials will be carried out in strict accordance with the Regulations adopted in 2017.

In case of failure to comply with this order, the directors of the respective enterprises are at risk of administrative penalties in accordance with applicable law.

It should be noted that the Republic of Moldova is the most forest-free country in Europe. Official statistics say about 12% of the forest and forest stands in the country, while independent ecologists say that the real figure is less than 9%. All this against the background of many illegal logging and corruption in the field of forest management.

The EU average is 27%. Scientists consider the forest one of the most important ecosystem elements, especially against the background of the risks of global climate change.
