Turkish hazel or Turkish filbert (lat.Córylus colúrna) is a beautiful, first-tier, Red Book tree with a deep and powerful root system and high decorative effect. Lives over 200 years and grows up to 30 meters.

Bear Nut is a deciduous tree with a beautiful, pyramidal crown pointing upwards. They are used both for forest plantations, protective zones, and in urban landscaping. Frost resistance of Bear Walnut up to -35. Bear walnut prefers fertile, well-drained soils, but can grow on poorer soils, limestones and slopes. Being a forest species, it withstands partial shade and shade, especially at a young age.

The natural habitat of Bear Nut is the Caucasus, the western coast of Russia, the mountains of Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Iran and Turkey. Bear walnut grows in mixed deciduous forests up to an altitude of 1700 meters. In culture, Hazel tree is cultivated in the Botanical Gardens up to the latitude of St. Petersburg. In the northern Bot Gardens, it sometimes freezes, but quickly recovers during the growing season.

In late August - early September, Bear Nut bears tasty nutritious nuts that fall to the ground. High fruiting occurs once every four to five years, after which there is a pause. Despite the fact that Hazelnuts are smaller in size than varietal hazel and with a thicker skin, unpretentiousness and tallness are often more important qualities. For its high decorativeness and unpretentiousness, Bear Walnut is often used in urban landscaping and in private collections.

Due to the high value of the wood of the Bear Walnut, in tsarist times, this species was almost completely exterminated. And only its ability to survive in highlands and places with difficult accessibility saved Bear Nut from complete extinction. Today, Bear Nut is listed in the Red Book of the Russian Federation and many other countries.

The Bear Nut presents a high potential for breeding that has not yet been revealed. At the same time, it can be used as a stock for varietal species of hazel, providing them with its powerful root system and resistance to drought. This technique is not yet popular enough, but we plan to fill this gap.

On our website you can buy both Bear Nut seedlings of different ages, and nuts for food and for self-cultivation. Nuts are accompanied by detailed instructions for germination, following which, you will definitely get vysshivaniye and further results.
